waxing vs shaving

When it comes to hair removal, there can be multiple options at your disposal. So, out of everything that’s available, which one is considered the best for you and your skin? While there is no right or wrong answer, there may be pros and cons that you feel sets one method above the other. Let’s settle the waxing vs shaving debate, once and for all!

Comparing waxing vs shaving your legs

Out of all the methods for getting rid of that unwanted body hair, shaving and waxing have become the two most commonly used staples for men and women everywhere. Deciding between the two can be tricky, but here at Waxing With Aggy we are dedicated to helping you make the best choice for you and the skin you’re in.

The benefits of shaving your legswaxing vs shaving

Shaving: we’ve all been there and done that at least a hundred times. The whole process remains a staple due to its accessibility and affordable nature. If you’re running late, or maybe forgot to touch up before going out to the beach, shaving provides an immediate solution to your problem. Plus, with the addition of shaving creams, the likelihood of cuts and bumps has dropped significantly.

Not only can shaving be done quickly, but also discreetly in a number of different locations. Whether you’re at home or traveling, there is no place that your razor can’t go.

The benefits of waxing your legs

The benefits of using wax to remove hair includes its ability to attach to the hair follicles and remove the hair directly at the root. Removing the follicle straight from the hair root (versus cutting it) means that your skin stays hair free for longer. In addition, using hard wax caters directly to people with sensitive skin since the wax only binds to the hair follicle versus your skin and avoids the risk of razor burn all together.

How long do results last between waxing vs shaving?

The answer to this can vary depending on each individual’s hair regrowth cycle. Waxing takes the lead with an average regrowth rate of around 5 or 6 weeks. Shaving, on the other hand, may only last a couple days before regrowth is visible again.

Common misconceptions about hair removal

Even though we know quite a bit about hair removal, common misconceptions still exist. It is our hope that with proper education we can clear up any confusion.

Will shaving or waxing make hair grow back thicker?

One of the more common questions we get asked is if shaving or waxing your body hair actually causes it to grow back thicker and darker than it was before. The simple answer is: no, it wont. In fact, the more often you wax your hair, the thinner and more sparse the hair gets.

Why shouldn’t you try waxing at home?

Waxing at home is definitely not advisable. This isn’t because us, as professionals, just want your money. Waxing can be dangerous if not done properly. After all, waxing is the use of hot wax applied directly to the skin. If heated incorrectly, you could suffer serious burns or injury.

Does laser hair removal get rid of hair permanently?

When going through a laser hair removal treatment, it is expected that your hair will no longer grow from the area following the treatment. In reality, laser hair removal simply damages the hair follicle (over multiple sessions) until the hair stops growing. Over time these follicles can repair themselves and begin to regrow hair if not fully destroyed.

How to get the best results out of leg waxing

If waxing is something that you’ve found has piqued your interest, let’s go over some basic tips and tricks to make sure your waxing session provides the best results possible.

Exfoliate a day or two before your appointment

Whether you choose waxing or shaving as your preferred method of hair removal, it is important  to maintain a regular skincare routine that includes exfoliation. When you add exfoliation to your habits, you ensure that any new hair growth is not getting stuck under layers of built up oil and dead skin cells.

The removal of dead skin and any potential buildup is also crucial to complete at least 1 day prior to your waxing session. Exfoliating both one day before and two days after your wax  ensures no new hair growth gets trapped as an ingrown hairs. Just smooth skin!

Listen to your esthetician’s advice and skincare tips

Lastly, if you have any questions or concerns about how to sustain healthy skin and hair after a wax, feel free to ask your esthetician! It is our just to make sure that you are not only comfortable with the process, but also confident in us and the results.

At the end of your session, your wax technician should provide information about how to sustain your newly groomed skin. Ensure that you follow their recommendations for the best results.
