how long does waxing last

Dreaming of smooth skin that lasts longer than the average shave? Tired of your ingrown hairs? Not sure how long your hair removal results will last after your waxing appointment? We’re here to cover all of that!

Join us as we go over how body waxing can impact how you take control of all of your unwanted hair growth, as well as how long you can reap the benefits of your freshly waxed skin.

The bottom line

On average your wax should take around three to four weeks before you’re ready for your next appointment. Although this time frame is approximate, there are actually quite a few things that can influence how long it takes for your new hair growth to resurface. If you’re interested in beginning your waxing journey, we’re happy to go over what you can do to slow down your new hair growth and get the most out of your waxing treatment.

Factors that influence how long your wax lasts

Body hair can be such a tricky thing. Some parts of your body have hair growth cycles that seem to last forever, and hair on other parts of your body seem to pop up almost instantaneously! While you can’t perfectly control your hair growth, there are definitely some factors that you can take note of to help slow down any new regrowth.

The area of the body being waxed

First, let’s be mindful of the area being waxed. A brazilian wax can feel like it lasts much longer than an eyebrow wax or leg waxing session – and sometimes it can! Each part of your body has a different hair growth cycle that can influence how long your body hair takes to regrow. While you can’t necessarily change these patterns, you can take note of them and work to create a regular routine for best results.

Professional waxing vs at-home

Did you know that professional waxing can actually make a significant difference in the amount of time that your skin stays smooth and hair free? Yes, getting your bikini wax done by a stranger may seem intimidating, but the truth is that this “stranger” is actually trained and skilled in hair removal techniques that ensure each and every hair is removed from the hair follicle instead of breaking off during the waxing process. Not only is at-home waxing less effective, it can also leave you dealing with ingrown hairs and at worst, burns.

Genetics, hormones, and diet

Not only do your genetics play a role in how quickly your hair growth cycle begins to regenerate after waxing, your hormones and diet can also be a key factor, too! Think about it: if you’ve ever noticed the hair on your head thinning or not growing quick enough, one of the first two places your dermatologist or physician will look is your hormones and diet. While modifying these things to make the time between waxing sessions last longer isn’t advisable, these can absolutely play a role in your growth cycles.

Does the type of wax used affect waxing length?

The short answer? Absolutely! The long answer? Well, it’s not as simple as choosing between hard wax and soft wax. Instead, let’s try to focus on the quality of your wax. The use of brands that are not crafted for professional use can leave you with skin that looks waxed, but actually leaves the hair broken beneath the top layer of skin. In a professional setting, with proper quality wax, the type of wax should not affect results.

Comparing waxing results to other methods of hair removal

So  what makes waxing different from the other methods of hair removal? Are there other options that can give me the same (or better) results? Let’s look into that!

Shaving

This household staple is convenient and cost effective – but that’s about it. Shaving leaves you with razor burn, ingrown hairs, and new regrowth in a matter of a day or two.

Threading

Threading has been on the rise for years, boasting a similar hair-free length of time that waxing does. While you can get threaded almost as easily as you can get waxed, some may find the process a little more uncomfortable. Overall, it’s a superb eyebrow solution for those with sensitive skin.

Sugaring

Accomplishing the same hair removal tactic as waxing, sugaring removes each hair directly from the root of the hair follicle. The main difference is that sugaring may require multiple passes over the same area to be fully thorough. This option is also a great alternative for those with sensitive skin who may have a wax allergy.

Laser

On the more luxurious side of things, we have laser hair removal. While costly, this process of hair removal boasts years of hair-free skin in the area of treatment. It takes multiple sessions to see results, and even then, you may see hair growth return after a year or two. Laser hair removal isn’t the fix-all solution some people claim it to be!

Tips to make your wax last longer

First, and arguably the most important part, is to create a routine waxing schedule. After your fourth or fifth wax you will notice thinner and slower regrowth moving forward. In addition to consistent appointments, try to exfoliate dead skin and moisturize regularly. The last thing you want is dry, brittle hair that breaks off during your wax appointment. Lastly, do not shave between waxes! If you want slower regrowth, you cannot shave your hair as it will reset any and all progress you’ve made.
